Cities of Kitchener, Waterloo also introducing mandatory vaccine policy for employees
Just like the Waterloo region, the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are advancing with mandatory vaccination guidelines for staff.
Both also apply to volunteers.
In Kitchener, the policy goes into effect immediately, despite the city saying a phased implementation plan is in place to give staff, volunteers, and students time to review their vaccination status.
Those who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 or who do not want to reveal their vaccination status must educate themselves about the benefits of the vaccine and attend regular tests.
“Since the pandemic began, we have said our primary goal is to protect the health and safety of the Kitchener citizens we serve and the employees who serve them,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “As a provider of critical community programs and services and a major employer, the City of Kitchener will continue to focus on developing policies that ensure safe environments for both residents and employees.”
In Waterloo, the directive will come into force on September 27th.
The Waterloo area and Wilmot Township announced similar guidelines on Monday.
