Conestoga College mourns death of student killed in Kitchener

Conestoga College says an 18-year-old who was killed in Kitchener last week was a student on its carpentry program.

Waterloo Regional Police said a murder investigation was ongoing after 18-year-old Joshua Bennett was found dead on a path near Paulander Drive at around 4 a.m. on Friday.

Bennett was a student on the Conestogas Carpenter and Home Improvement Technician program on the Waterloo campus. Born in Etobicoke, he started his studies in the fall of 2020.

“It is with great sadness that I share the news that a member of our Conestoga ward was murdered in Kitchener last week,” said College President John Tibbits.

“Our thoughts are with Joshua’s family and friends, his classmates and teachers and everyone who knew him.”

Police released few details about Bennett’s death, but said an autopsy is due to take place Monday to determine the cause of death.
