Kitchener senior wins provincial award

Donald Hishon is recognized for his work with Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous at the Grand Valley Institution for Women

The provincial government celebrates 15 seniors for their exceptional commitment to their communities and the province.

One of this year’s Senior Achievement Award winners is from Kitchener.

Donald “Donny” Hishon, who was named Senior of the Year by Kitchener in June, is recognized for his work with Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous, who host meetings at the Grand Valley Institution for Women.

In addition, Hishon volunteers in reintegration programs to help female offenders prepare for a better future.

Recipients will be recognized by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in a virtual ceremony on Friday.

“Seniors across the province have felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic most directly and it is a joy to celebrate the positive difference seniors are making for our communities. Today’s recipients are role models for Ontarians of all ages, “said Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
