TORONTO – An Ontario family is given a year of free travel on Highway 407 after a baby is born on the side of the popular street.
Troy and Erika Campbell were using a dashcam to record their trip to a Whitby hospital on May 17 when their video took an unexpected turn.
Suddenly Erika’s contractions began to occur more frequently. In the video you can hear her saying that she needs to start pushing.
“Do you have to push? What do you think you have to push? “You hear her husband say.
The Campbells were driving on Highway 407 in Pickering, Ontario. and were just over 10 minutes from the nearest hospital. At the direction of her midwife, Troy pulled up to the side of the road and called 911.
“I’m having a baby on the 407”, Erika can be heard calling out to the emergency dispatcher when she lifts the receiver.
Troy rushes to his wife’s side and after a short time the couple’s third child is born. Both Erika and the newborn were taken by ambulance to the hospital shortly after birth, where they were issued a clean health certificate.
“It went so quickly,” Troy told the CTV News Channel a few days later. “You are going through so many emotions, you are afraid, you are very excited, you are stressed, like all these emotions.”
On Friday, the company that manages the 407 Express Toll Route sent out a celebratory tweet congratulating the family on the birth of Nova Campbell.

The company said they will be giving parents a year of free highway travel as well as a gift certificate to offset the cost of car seats for the newborn and their siblings.
“Congratulations to this lovely family,” they tweeted.
