Police treating Kitchener assault as hate-motivated, arrest made (update)

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a hate-motivated incident.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Ira Needles Boulevard and Highland Road West area of ​​Kitchener.

Police said the male victim was walking around the area when another man came up to him who allegedly attacked him and yelled racist remarks.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

The suspect has been described as a man between 30 and 35 years of age with medium stature, long black hair, and was last seen in a blue jacket and light-colored pants.

Late on Friday afternoon, police said that a 30-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
