Priest launches GoFundMe campaign for Kitchener family who lost father to COVID-19
A Kitchener priest has launched a GoFundMe campaign for the family of a 56-year-old father of six who recently died after battling COVID-19.
Daniel Hebeisen, who organized the campaign, said Felicien Lukusa and his wife were both hospitalized in June after contracting the virus and placed on a ventilator within hours of arriving.

According to the priest, the two oldest daughters had to look after their younger siblings.
“After three weeks on a ventilator, the mother recovered and went home to be with her children again,” Hebeisen wrote.
“But only a week and a half later they received the terrible news that their father and husband Felicien Lukusa had died.”

According to Lukusa’s obituary, he died on July 18th.
“I’ve always had a soft spot for them because they’re a generous family in the Church,” Hebeisen told Global News.
“You know, everyone who is in need, in the church, small or large, because he always gives what he can.”
He said two of the children are under 10 years old while a third is in their early teen years.

“If you think for the mother, it will be a hard road,” said the priest.
“And when you know a family like that, they aren’t that common. The kind of generosity and kindness they show is not that common. “
By Thursday morning, the campaign had raised more than $ 18,000.
“Because of all the uncertainty that will come our way and the challenges that you have, everything will help,” said Hebeisen.
“I think this is a family and a GoFundme where everyone who donates honestly helps every dollar (the family).”
