Several road closures were carried out in the Lancaster and Bridge Street area of Kitchener on Tuesday afternoon.
The city initially reported that this was due to a leak, and a regional spokesman later confirmed that there was a sewage leak at the Bridgeport pumping station.
Repairs are underway and the region said staff and construction teams have minimized the spill.
A statement sent to 570 NEWS states: “The drinking water was not affected and residents are asked to avoid the area while repairs are being carried out. No public health risk was identified from the leak. ”
The Bridge and Lancaster Street roundabout remained closed Tuesday night with no known reopening time.
