Head over to the Belwood Lake Conservation Area, located in the town of Fergus. The conservation area features a 12 km reservoir created during the construction of the Shand Dam in 1942 and is ideal spot for hiking and bird watching. Details

Visit the Vatican Museum

Before the times of Covid-19, Easter was a time when many visited the famed Vatican Museum. The Vatican Museums has a very extensive collection of art and sculptures gathered by successive Popes over the centuries, as well as some of Apostolic Palace’s most artistic rooms. When Covid-19 forced the museum to shut its physical doors, the Museum opened virtually with virtual tours of the grounds and treasured exhibits. You can also do a 360° virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel, where one can see the painting of Michelangelo’s Last Judgment behind the altar wall as well as the Stories of Genesis on the ceiling.

Along the scenic Grand River

Plan a day to exploring the scenery along the Walter Bean Trail. The trail runs through the cities of Waterloo, Cambridge, Kitchener and the Township of Woolwich. Trail Map

An Art Walk

Explore art by local artists during the Hughes Lane Art Walk in Uptown Waterloo. Named after Anna Hughes, Waterloo’s first female city councillor, this project is all about breaking barriers at alleys and laneways in Uptown. Details

Hughes Lane runs parallel to King St. South in Uptown Waterloo. It runs between William St. and Willis Way and picks up again on the other side of the Uptown Parkade and runs to Erb St. See a map here.

Explore Rail Trail

 

Hike or bike any section of the 18 kilometre trail that follows the Grand River through lush Carolinian forest with spectacular river overlooks. The trail follows the old roadbed of the Lake Erie and Northern Railway (LE&N).

In Cambridge, the trail connects to City of Cambridge trails, which in turn link to the Walter Bean Trail, which continues through Kitchener and Waterloo. Details
